The objectives of this research are to know the improvement of students’
reading comprehension after the application of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) by using PowerPoint Program and to
describe
the students’ responses on implementation of Computer Assisted Language
Learning (CALL) by using PowerPoint Program
The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR).
This research was conducted in two cycles of actions. It was started from January
until March for the seventh grade of MTs N Gondang, Sragen. The subject of the
research was the students of class VII A about 32 students. In this research,
the researcher applied the Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) by using PowerPoint Program to
improve students reading comprehension. The researcher collected the data by
using the questionnaire, observations, interviews, and documentation as the
qualitative data. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were collected by using the
tests. These data were compared and analyzed to get a conclusion as the result
of this research.
The Computer Assisted Language Learning
(CALL) technique by using PowerPoint was applied and integrated on class
activity. The improvement could be seen from the students’ mean. In the pre-test,
the students’ mean score was 61.56, 72.03 in the post-test 1, and 81.78 in the
post-test 2. Based on the observation and the questionnaire, the students had
good responds in the teaching and learning process. The researcher discovered
that the students became more active in responding in study. They had more
enthusiastic in studying and doing exercise. Therefore, it can be concluded
that students reading
comprehension could improve by applying Computer Assisted Language Learning
(CALL) using PowerPoint program and this technique had achieved good responses
by the students in English lesson.
